Community Day at Mohonasen promises to be a memorable event Mark your calendars for September 11, 2004
Niskayuna has "Niska Day" and now Mohonasen is working with town and business officials
and a host of other enthusiastic residents to organize a similar "grand-scale" community-wide celebration for the fall.
The
event will take place on the Mohonasen High School campus. Organizers would like it to become an annual event, held the first
Saturday after school begins. This year that date falls on September 11th, so special tributes to the victims and heroes of
September 11, 2001 will be woven into the day-long event.
Community Day
at Mohonasen will begin with the first annual Amber Teta Memorial 5K Run, followed by a parade.
From Noon to dusk the campus will be alive with all kinds of hands-on activities for kids and adults, a craft
fair, lots of great entertainment, food, music and a community
pasta dinner. Local restaurateurs are planning a friendly "Taste of Rotterdam" competition
to showcase some of the great foods this community is known for.
The event will come to an end at dusk with a special
candlelight vigil to remember the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on this nation, and then conclude
with fireworks.
"Our goal is to mark the achievements, culture and rich heritage of our schools and
our community," says Mohonasen Superintendent Dr. Oliver Robinson. "We want this to be a fun and memorable event that will
draw large numbers of families representing all ages and stages of life.
"In fact, we are already seeing a greater
sense of community spirit as more and more people get involved in this effort -- including our town leaders, local businesses
and restaurants, service organizations and more," Robinson says. "There is so much to be proud of in our schools and our community
and we ought to take some time to celebrate that."
A large group of school and community representatives are busy planning
the event which promises to be among the most memorable events ever hosted in Rotterdam.

Flag of Remembrance to be Unveiled in Chappaqua
September 11, 2004
The
official unveiling and dedication of the Flag of Remembrance will take place at 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 11, 2004, in
the courtyard of the Chappaqua Library in Chappaqua, New York. The Flag was created to honor the
victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Photographs of victims sent by family and friends were transferred to fabric
squares in tones of red, white or blue, then sewn together to form an American flag of faces measuring a majestic 27 feet
wide and 20 feet high. Those without a photograph are honored with a memorial candle. All victims are identified
by name. Chappaqua residents Mindy Kombert and Sherry Kronenfeld started work on the Flag in the days following
the attacks, suspending their graphic design business and devoting the next two years to this project. Ms. Kombert is a graphic
artist and quilter whose work has been exhibited in several galleries in New York. Ms. Kronenfeld is a writer and researcher.
This event is co-sponsored by the Chappaqua Library and the Chappaqua Interfaith Council. Where: Chappaqua

Dear Fellow September 11th Families,
For the First anniversary of September 11th, we established Concert
for Remembrance, 9/11 in memory of our son, Welles Remy Crowther, and all of the victims and heroes of the terrible
attacks against our country.
With the help of friends who are professional musicians with the major orchestras in
New York and New Jersey, we created this beautiful concert that is held every year, the first Sunday after September 11th.
It is a free concert for the community, sponsored by The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, approximately 1 hour.
September 11th families have reserved seating. We will have a red rose waiting for you in memory of your loved one.
This year, Barbara Allen, principal harpist of American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, will perform a Handel Concerto arranged
for harp and we will give the US premier of "Lament and Restoration", a violin concerto written by Ron Wasserman, principal
bassist of New York City Ballet, in memory of 9/11 and the healing power of music. Other works will be performed, as
well.
We invite you all to come. We hear each year, from an overflow audience, how beautiful and healing is
this concert. We hope to be able to share this peace and beauty with you and your families.
A reception will follow
to meet the artists and the composer. Please RSVP to me if you would like to attend and have reserved seating.
A
CD of "Lament and Restoration" has been recorded by musicians from New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Metropolitan
Opera, New York Philharmonic, Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music. The recording was conducted by Andrea Quinn,
maestro of New York City Ballet Orchestra. The CD will be released on September 12 and may be obtained with a donation of
$20 per CD.

Everyone can be a hero on Sunday, September 28 during "The Firefighter Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run."
This five kilometer (5K) run/walk traces the path of a heroic FDNY firefighter who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel
to reach Ground Zero on 9-11.
The run/walk starts at I.S. 142 in Red Hook, Brooklyn (at Hamilton Avenue and Hicks Street), then traces Stephen's
course from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, up West Street to Liberty Street, then onto the World Financial Center and finally
to Vesey Street, between the site of Three and Four World Trade Center.
All race proceeds will benefit three charities, the NYC Firefighter Burn Center, The Freedom Alliance and the
Stephen Siller, FDNY, "Let Us Do Good" Children's Foundation, a charity created to help children who have lost one or both
parents, or have special needs.
